Download My Book, FREE: The Book On How To Sell On Amazon
There are easy ways to start-up, even if you are new to selling online. The easiest way to start up is to go out purchase products and create a few listings on Amazon using their basic entry-level subscription. Amazon have a very interactive website so you will never get stuck and never be more than a click or a phone call away from their customer service team that can give you help and advice.
As part of growing the business I have hit various hurdles that I’ve needed to overcome, I cannot speak highly enough or recommend strongly enough that you contact Amazons merchant seller helpline. Amazon is a very customer focused organisation, I do come across a number of people that say Amazon is focused only at the end user customer (i.e. the purchaser of a product), from my experience that is totally incorrect because as a retail marketplace merchant selling on Amazon I am also an Amazon customer.
No sign-up or optin page, I will not send you hundreds of emails…
As an Amazon customer I am generating part of the income that makes Amazon the great place to shop that it is today. So whenever I have had hurdles to get over the Amazon customer service team have been excellent at delivering the answer. Now the answer may not always be the one that I want or it may be that I cannot do it in the way that I wanted to, but I have been given an answer and I have been given a way in which I can do what is required.
Therefore you have got to have the flexibility and the mindset to accept that you may have to do things differently and you may have to comply to rules and regulations that you personally do not agree with.
If you already have an inventory, you are an existing retail business online or off-line then you can upload your inventory very easily into Amazon. When I first started I used to list each item individually until I got to know the system, once I was comfortable with their system I used their spreadsheet templates.
Their templates look very daunting if you’re not used to using spreadsheets, however sitting down with a good cup of coffee you will soon start to realise that the spreadsheets just follow a logical pattern and once you have established the pattern your mindset will change and you will be able to upload your data from any existing spreadsheet you have using very simple copy and paste functions onto the Amazon spreadsheets.
One of the best things about using the spreadsheet method is that if you do upload the spreadsheet incorrectly you will have an error report from Amazon. That error report will tell you exactly what you need to change and normally within a few clicks those changes can be made and your products are live.
As I said earlier when you get an error report if it doesn’t make sense contact Amazon customer support, they will be able to talk you through it. I have done this a number of times when I’ve had very large multiple spreadsheets to upload and even now my team will ask questions when we are listing a product that might have specific variations that require more in-depth understanding of how the spreadsheet will interpret or display the data.
This is one of the reasons that I set up www.h2so.org as I am frequently asked questions on how to complete tasks so we offer workshops and one-to-one mentoring based on our experience to assist people who are serious about selling online and in particular Amazon.
As you become more confident in your skills of using Amazon you can obviously upgrade to one of their other packages and become a pro merchant seller.
When you register with Amazon and you are creating a merchant shop you will be asked to provide a shop name, if you have an existing web store or thinking of expanding to a web store then you should ensure that the name of your shop is the same as or at least as near to that trading name as possible. You will not be allowed to use the prefix www. or suffix .com, .co.uk etc.
If you have not secured your web shop domain names it may be a good idea to do so at this point to ensure that they are still available for you to use so that you can expand into your web store when you are ready. Great place to obtain domain names are 1and1, GoDaddy, 123reg or search online for domain registrations.
